I traveled Thursday from Ocean Springs, MS to bring my dad a generator and gas in Port Allen--rural area. Most of the trucks were still heading into New Orleans but the damage I saw throughout the Baton Rouge area reminded me of some of the Katrina zones...Baton Rouge is the untold story and I know the people there are resilient...but the efforts need to shift there fast. I say complete rows of 20-30 power poles down on highways in Port Allen and the flooded areas are extensive. Thanks for bringing attention to this.

I feel so helpless. I have a son with a 5 yr old child with TYPE 1 DIABETES who is in a devasted area of Port Allen, Louisiana. He has a huge tree embedded in the childrens bedroom roof. He has no electricity. He has several other large trees down on his property. The water is over a foot deep around the house. The shelters in his area are over flowing with people in need. He says the house is smelling horrible due to the 90 plus heat and the water damage in the house from the days after the storm. He has been struggling for several days to get food, water, and ice. He called tonight feeling extremely frustrated. There is nothing but panic where ever he goes. He fears for his families safety, so he is trying to stay in the damaged home. There is no knowledge reaching the rural communities on when the power will return. Everyone is feeling abandoned by the goverment and media. The city areas are getting some help, but the rural communities, ie., West Baton Rouge, Pointe Coupe, etc., where the storm did severe devastation has been forgotten. I feel so helpless....Someone please reach out to the higher power and Let it be known THEY NEED HELP NOW....

I have 3 brothers that live in Baton Rouge, they said their neighborhoods look like war zones. No electricity, trees down on houses, no stores open. I live in New England and have not seen anything on the news about Baton Rouge. All that I heard is that the New Orleans dodged the storm. Why is there no coverage??

i have a twin brother that lives in Baton Rouge and some aunts uncles and cousins that live on the west bank.. i thank God for this hurricane not being anything like Katrina. my family from the west bank came and stayed with me again during this hurricane.. but my brother stayed in baton rouge to protect his computer business.. last i heard was that they were comparing the devastation in baton rouge to Betsy.. that it was the worst devastation in memory.. we saw President Bush land at the air port and then NOTHING>>> i mean nothing.. being all the way in georgia it is somewhat comforting to see coverage.. reports on progress .. anything really and for 2 days i can't find anything.. it's sad and upsetting to see how quickly they have been forgotten.New Orleans is vital to Louisiana but Baton Rouge being the capital you'd think they would show more interest.. All areas devastated like Grand Isle or Houma.. why is there nothing at all anymore.. 3 years after katrina.. there are still so many areas left and abandoned .. is it out of sight out of mind or what...

well,I am from Ocean Springs Mississippi....I lived in Baton Rouge for 10 years. Wonderful beautiful town. I can feel your pain ~ Katrina only happened to New Orleans don't you know? Not the Mississippi Gulf Coast! I pray for speedy power restoration for you guys. I know it is horrible. Know that our prayers are with you all.

big mistake if the supreme court rules in favor of preemption.
where is our justice for all if you take away our right to be protected against neglegent drug companys...........who make us beleive the product is safe for use.

As a resident of the United Kingdom,I keep a close watch on events regarding drug safety in the United States. If the rights of an individual are taken away,and then suffers serious side effects as the result of taking a drug, where the manufacturer does not give the totally accurate details or risks of the product,then this would be totally against the freedom, equality and fairness for the people for which the United States is renowned worldwide.

I make this comment as the result of my wife suffering a serious heart attack in 2004, just prior to Merck removing Vioxx from the market.She had been in good health,apart from arthritis,up to that time. This has completely ruined our lives, and yet, in the United Kingdom we have no right of redress against against Merck and co.
