Truck Accidents Different From Auto Accident Cases

I attended a truck accident litigation seminar recently in order to update my practice skills, and was reminded of how different an accident case involving a truck is from the garden-variety auto case. Of the 16,000 accidents that happen every day(!) on American roads, many involve trucks, and many of these involve catastrophic injury due to the size and weight of these vehicles.

A truck going 35 miles per hour creates the same amount of impact force as a car going 138 miles per hour, so the results of many truck accidents are truly devastating for all involved. These cases are usually highly technical, and raise complex issues about liability, causation and damages. They cannot and should not be undertaken by an auto accident lawyer, at least not without the involvement of a lawyer experienced and trained in the handling of truck accidents.

Unlike regular cars and light trucks, semi-trailer trucks, truck drivers, and the companies that put them on the road are regulated by federal statutes and regulations. These federal laws govern almost every aspect of trucking, from the hours a driver can drive without resting, to the amount of insurance a carrier must carry. These are subject matters that simply do not arise in the ordinary automobile accident case, which would not typically implicate these federal laws.

Be mindful of the elevated skill set a truck accident requires if you, a friend or loved one has an accident involving a truck.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Peter Wetherall

Las Vegas Ranking Low on Safe Driver List

Now, there is tangible proof that Las Vegas drivers are some of the worst drivers in the nation. Allstate, a national insurance company, has released their annual America's Best Drivers Report.

The report ranks Las Vegas in the bottom third in the nation when it comes to good drivers.

Las Vegas drivers have been known to eat, put on make up and read while driving, some incidents leading to car accidents. It's quite scary as this clearly means the driver is not paying attention to the road and other cars.

Whatever the reasons may be Las Vegas ranks 167 out of 200 cities for having good drivers. Sioux Falls, South Dakota, tanks at the top of the list for safest drivers in the country.

An Allstate spokeswoman says driving more cautiously will save money for all involved in the long run. Less car accidents will mean fewer rate increases. The study discovered that the most accidents nationwide occurred on Friday. Sunday is the second most common night for accidents.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Chrissie Cole

Rollover Accident Claims Two Lives in Las Vegas

Two people lost their lives on Sunday morning in a rollover car crash in North Las Vegas. The crash happened at approximately 3:00 at Tropical and Decatur.

The driver of a truck swerved to avoid something that was in the road, Las Vegas Police said. And in doing so he lost control of the truck, hit a curb and crashed into a brick wall. Two of the three passengers did not have their seatbelts on and were thrown from the vehicle.

Police say there was a strong odor of alcohol in the truck and believe that could have attributed to the accident although police haven't said if the driver was intoxicated. The crash is still being investigated.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Christina Cole
